Abstract
Since the invention of the movies in the 20th century, it has become one of the most important ways of entertainment and it influences people deeply. At present, the English movies are used not only as the method to relax, it is also the tool to be used in English teaching activities. That is to say, both three important functions of watching original English movies in English teaching and learning will be analyzed in details, including presenting the collocations of English vocabularies, improving learners’ speaking and listening capability as well as helping learners know the culture of English speaking countries better. Besides, some suggestions about how to guarantee the efficiency of English teaching by means of watching original English movies are also provided so as to help the English teachers at high schools to improve their proficiency in English teaching.
