Abstract
Native language can have a great impact on second language learning for Chinese students in the process of acquisition. This dissertation mainly investigates the positive and negative influence attributed by language transfer. First, it categorizes and analyzes the problems that the high school students in Grade 2 come across and it points out the concrete forms of Chinglish during the process of English learning. Then, based on the performance of students’ English learning and the theory of language transfer, this study investigates the status quo and trends of high school students’ mother tongue’s negative transfer in English learning and conducts a statistical analysis of errors. Moreover, in order to assist the students and facilitate their study of English, the paper investigates how language transfer influence students’ learning in terms of pronunciation, glossary, grammar and culture respectively, and figure out several approaches in promoting positive transfer and avoiding the errors brought by negative transfer.
