The story took place on an ordinary town along Mississippi River in the first half of the 19th century. The leading character Tom Sawyer is a playful, adventurous, naive and smart child. Through the description of the adventures of the leading character and his little companions, the novel has satirized and criticized the hypocrisy and vulgar social customs of the United States, the hypocritical religious rites and rigid school education, depicting the free and lively spirit of the children in cheerful tone.
