Abstract
In recent several decades, China has attached great importance to the English teaching and learning. However, due to the examination-oriented education system, the phenomenon of "deaf-and-mute" is still deep-rooted. The finial purpose of teaching English is to let students use the language. Students are in urgent need of improving the ability of listening and speaking so as to make them successful communicators.
Based on theory knowledge of the English teaching, the author takes a primary school in Nanjing as an example, surveys the status quo of students' ability of English listening and speaking in primary schools and analyzes the influence factors through the documentary method and observational method. The author puts forward strategies and hopes to have a positive effect on English teaching.
