Abstract
Reading is an important part of English learning and English teaching. With the popularization of English in primary schools, teaching of English reading is becoming more and more important. However, due to the limitations of the actual teaching situation, the choice of reading materials is one of the difficulties faced by English teachers. Many scholars pointed out that picture book plays an important role in students' language learning. Reading picture books is helpful to develop students' language ability, that is to say, as reading more books their language ability will be stronger.
Therefore, the application of picture books in English teaching has attracted more and more attention of educators. This dissertation will provide some advice on the teaching of picture books through previous researches and personal reflections : firstly, teachers should choose suitable reading materials for students to stimulate students' interest in reading and meet their cognitive characteristics. Secondly, teachers should design different reading activities for students at different learning stages, so as to help them understand the content of the story, and to cultivate their reading skills.
