Abstract

 

Business English correspondence in foreign trade plays a more and more important role. Therefore, to grasp its vocabulary characteristics is necessary. This paper will introduce vocabulary characteristics of business English correspondence from three aspects: application of terminology, the unique nature of wording and wording simplicity in order  to find out the specific vocabulary characteristics of business English correspondences in foreign trade, which is different from both face-to-face interactions and everyday letters; to see why business English correspondence possess such characteristics; and to propose some implications for business English learners and the business practitioners to enhance their mastery of appropriate use of vocabulary in business English correspondence.
