Abstract: In our society, everyone has the needs. Through Maslow’s theory of needs, we can know that we have different needs at different stages. On the one hand, it can urge us to fight for a bright future. On the other hand, it also can push us into a dark future. In the novel The Collector, the hero and the heroine hold completely different attitudes about their needs. By analyzing these two characters’ pursuits of their needs in this novel with Maslow’s theory of needs, this paper aims to gain some inspiration as to how to make our needs become a motivational rather than a destructive factor in our lives.
