Abstract: With the increasing cross cultural communication between China and other nations, a large number of excellent English and American film and television works come to our life. As a special form of translation, film subtitle translation has been increasingly demanded in recent years. According to Skopos theory, film subtitle translation is a purposeful activity. The purpose of film subtitle translation is to provide the most effective information within the constraints of time and space, which can contribute to a good appreciation of films. The author, by taking the translation of Forrest Gump as a case, probes into the relevant translation methods, meanwhile, attaches importance to the cultural factors in the translation process under the guidance of Skopos theory.
