Abstract:As one of the most significant parts of news, news headline is regarded as the guidance of the whole report which conveys important messages. News headlines have their own characteristics in terms of vocabulary, grammar and rhetorical devices. And they also vary vastly among different languages. Therefore, the translation of news headlines is particularly important. Based on news reports from the bilingual sector of Financial Times, this paper attempts to probe into the translation of news headlines from the perspective of Newmark’s communicative translation and semantic translation in quest of efficient ways to accurately transmit information of grammatical features, rhetorical devices and cultural elements.
