Abstract: Consecutive interpretation is an important bridge linking international communication. Many researchers have dedicated themselves to consecutive interpretation study in recent years, especially the correlation between interpretation anxiety and output quality. However, lots of researchers targeted with professional interpreters. The advice given by them is not suitable for interpreter learners. This paper first uses anxiety questionnaire to determine intermediate students’ anxiety, then analyses the length of sentence, valid words, key words, regular collocation and grammar precision of their interpretation output, and explores the correlation between students’ output quality and their classroom anxiety. This paper finds that interpretation anxiety has no big effect on interpretation performance when subjects are intermediate English level students and give corresponding advice to these students and teachers.
Key words: interpretation anxiety; output quality; intermediate learners
