Abstract

With the development of economic globalization and informatization, the relationship between our country and the rest of world is becoming increasingly close. the importance of English learning is more and more prominent with its development. With the implementation of the Great Western Development strategy, education of ethnic areas, especially the current situation of trilingual teaching of the ethnic areas, has been taken seriously. Sichuan Tibetan areas is one of the highly representative ones of the ethnic areas. And Tibetan students also make up a majority role of all the ethnic students. They have to take Mandarin class and English while studying Tibetan which is their native language. One is their native language, one is the national common language and the other is a international common language. How to balance the relations between these three languages and will these three languages influence on each other. There are the important discussing topics of trilingual teaching. Why should Tibetan students learn English, this is not only the requirement of their development in the future, but also the needs of going with the progress of social developing. Based on that, investigation and research of the current situation of the trilingual language teaching in Sichuan Tibetan area is in time and necessary. 

The thesis takes Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture as an exemplar, and the students from Kangding Tibetan School as test subjects, while show the current situation of Sichuan Tibetan Area and the exsiting problems. The author hopes the thesis can analyze the existing problems deeply from three parts, which are based on the current situation: students, teachers and government and seek the solutions and improvements, as well as set an example to Tibetan areas and even the whole ethnic areas.
