Abstract

In the 19th century, many female artists emerged in Britain, and they just described what they have seen and heard into their own literature masterpieces with exquisite curves. One of them was just Austen. She described several marriages in Pride And prejudice, which reflected the views on marriages of the Britain people at the end of 18th century and at the beginning of the 19th century. In a society that level views were pervasive, money and social status take the main position in marriage. However, in the novel, Austen satire this kind of opinion by describing the marriages of Mrs. Bennet, Charlotte, Mr. Collins, Lydia and wickham. Austen was trying to express her views that, in perfect marriage, feeling of love and respect and understanding to each other could neither be missed, and at the same time, taking money and social status into consideration should be judged. This paper, by analyzing the four main types of marriage in the book, I will try to analyze Jane Austen’s views on marriage and the key elements described in the work of Pride And Prejudice that can affect marriage, especially the feeling of love and economic condition.
