Abstract

With the development of world economic and cultural globalization, English as an important tool for Chinese to communicate with people in western countries, the significance of English education has received great attention, including oral English and its teaching method are very important. Consider the cognitive characteristics of students in the primary learning stage (8 ~12 years old), This dissertation takes the picture book teaching material in elementary school as the research background, describes its origin, significance and how to choose a good picture book and its research status, and it also displays the recent study on spoken English teaching and its inefficiency. Based on these theories and disadvantages, a teaching experiment which use the Pirate Pete Loses His Hat as the textbook is implemented, and this experiment mainly focus on discussing and comparing the results of 2 modes of teaching. This experiment applies some certain teaching strategies such as appropriate participation principle and situational principle, and set a series of standard to score and evaluate the performance of students after applying the scene performance teaching method, which leads to a positive result as expected. This teaching experiment may have a profound and directive influence on the further spoken English teaching.
