Abstract
The Bluest Eye is written by Toni Morrison and published in 1970. It talks about the tragedy of a black girl, Pecola Breedlove, who is teased and desolated by classmates and even her parents. So she is always eager for a pair of blue eyes, which she thinks can save her from the miserable life. Beside Pecola’s tragedy, there are other tragedies, such as her mother Pauline’s tragedy, her father Cholly’s tragedy, other black people’s tragedies etc. Through analyzing the Breedloves’ tragedy, this thesis is intended to point out the root of the Black’s tragedies are racial discrimination, cultural discrimination and gender discrimination in American society.
