Abstract
The birth of the Internet has brought profound changes to human life, so the network has become the ‘fourth media’ after the newspapers, radio and television, which arouses the update of communication environment and way and forms a new kind of language variants-network buzzwords. Network buzzwords, just as its name implies, is the popular network language, a conventional way of expression in the internet users’ process of communication. With the rapid development of society, the new network catchwords like a mushroom have emerged in endlessly. This paper tries to analyze the buzzword translation strategies from the perspective Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory so as to have a better understanding of the connotation of network buzzwords. Through the analysis of the characteristics of the network buzzwords, it can be found that translation means such as literal translation, free translation, amplification translation, and imitation translation are adopted to realize the cross-cultural communicative function. It is hoped that the thesis can play a positive role for foreign friends to understand the buzzword connotation and promote the effective communication between our country and other countries in such aspects as politics, economy and culture to a certain degree.
