Abstract
English teaching in primary school has long overemphasized the explaining and imparting of grammar and vocabulary but neglects the development of students’ abilities of using language, resulting in the loss of students’ interest in learning English. Situational teaching utilizes the well-designed situations to organize teaching, contributing to activating students’ interest and eventually helping cultivate their abilities of using language, which is consistent with the concept of new curriculum standards. On the basis of constructivism theory, second acquisition theory and the summary of related researches of situational teaching and with the combination of current situation of primary school English teaching, this thesis focuses on exploring the strategies to make the best use of situational teaching.
