Abstract
As a link of cultural communication, translation plays an important role in East-West interaction. The differences in cultural backgrounds and thinking patterns between nations will inevitably cause translation loss which refers to the loss of information, meaning, pragmatic function, cultural factor, aesthetic form and its function. Translation loss has occurred in the whole translation activities since a translator began to interpret the works of source language. This is the reason why compensation is necessary.
Drawing on the target language and language means, Xia Tingde defines the compensation as a method compensating for the translation loss according to the type of translation text and translation purpose. Currently, the research on compensatory translation has made some progress at home and abroad, but it still lags behind the study of other theories because compensation is not attached much importance to. This paper mainly focuses on the application of compensation in the translation of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, exploring the translation losses and its compensation strategies in the process of Chinese-English translation.
