Abstract
Cuisine, as an important part of culture, is different from country to country. As we know, there exist many differences between Chinese and Western cuisine culture in cultural cognition, values, eating habits and so on. The author gives a brief introduction to the cuisine of China and West, and analyzes the English translation of Chinese dish names from the cultural perspective. While comparing the characteristics of Chinese and Western dietary culture, this paper focuses on the principles and strategies of the English translation of Chinese dish names, especially on dealing with the principle of intercultural communication, cultural taboos as well as historical and cultural information. Through study, people can understand Chinese and Western cuisine culture in many ways. In addition, people can avoid cultural conflicts as much as possible during the translation process of Chinese dish names. Therefore, the more westerners learn about our culture, the better they learn our language and values well, hence the further development of intercultural communication between China and the West can be achieved, and at the same time, Chinese dietary culture will certainly get more extensive publicity.
