Abstract: Cooperative Learning is one of the most effective teaching strategies, which is very conducive to stimulating students’ interest in learning English so as to build up their self-confidence as well as develop their cooperative spirit. New English Curriculum Standards indicates that teachers should create different kinds of cooperative learning activities to make students learn from each other and develop their cooperative spirit. On the basis of relevant theories, the author observes a number of junior school English classes and makes a detailed analysis of the results observed. Defects in the implementation of cooperative learning in middle school English teaching are found and effective strategies are proposed to improve the effectiveness of cooperative learning.
