Abstract: Chinese linguistics development is firmly connected with the introduction of foreign linguistic theories. With more and more linguistic works being translated into Chinese, some challenge and confusion such as nonstandard translation of linguistic terms, non-unification have been appeared. Therefore, it is urgent to standardize Chinese translation of linguistic terms. This thesis analyzes existing problems in the translation of linguistic terms，looks back already current research on linguistic translation and further discusses factors in mistranslation of linguistic terms. On that basis, the author proposes principles of linguistic terms translation. Besides, this thesis analyzes problems of representative sociolinguistic translated terms and lists several feasible approaches. This thesis aims to catch the eyes of fields of linguistics and translation, trying to appeal more fields to join the ranks of standardization, and finally to promote the research and development of linguistics in China.
