Abstract: This thesis is mainly about error analysis on English translation of public signs in tourist attractions and countermeasures for improvement. The author finds that large numbers of errors in C-E signs translation in scenic spots show that today signs translations are far from satisfactory in China and they are often linguistic, pragmatic and cultural translation errors. To the problems found in tourist signs translation, strategies are given on how to improve the quality of these translations. They are literal translation, idiomatic translation, addition, omission. In a word, English translation of public signs in scenic spots reflects Chinese culture and transmit accurate information to foreigners. So translators have to pay more attentions to changing the present conditions of signs translation. Therefore, this thesis has practical value.
