Abstract: This thesis aims to analyze and compare the differences and similarities of female characters in Greek and Chinese mythologies. Many representative mythological female figures in these two cultures are studied and compared with each other. Firstly, three pairs of females with different characters are analyzed. Then, similar females in mythologies are studied, too. Finally, conclusion can be drwan that characteristics of females in Greek mythology have similar advantages and disadvantages with those of human beings, and their status is parallel to that of male; by contrast, female characters in Chinese mythology seem to be perfect in nature and hold a relatively lower status than male. Meanwhile, some similarities between these figures as females can be found through the comparison: some of them share the same destiny, and have some common traits of characters such as loyalty to love and braveness.
