Abstract: Education, as a main power of a country, affects family lives and social environment and even the future of the country. From Amy Tan’s novel The Joy Luck Club, the thesis tries to analyze the conflicts between four Chinese mothers and their Americanized daughters. Firstly, The Joy Luck Club and the definition and significance of education are introduced. Secondly, it expounds the conflicts in educational ideas, educational purposes and educational methods between China and America with plenty of examples. Last but not least, the influences of the conflicts in China and America are discussed including the ideology of the younger generation and employment. By analyzing these educational conflicts between China and America from a study on The Joy Luck Club, this thesis aims to enhance people’s understanding of the educational conflicts between China and America, thus further fusing education of China and America and developing educational career in China and America.
