Abstract:The author of The Sound and the Fury, William Faulkner has made great contributions to the revolution of modern literary techniques, especially the development of stream-of-consciousness. As one of the most innovative novels, The Sound and the Fury is regarded by many critics as the best novel of stream-of-consciousness in the history of American literature. However, few people have made a systematic analysis of the stream-of-consciousness technique in The Sound and the Fury, which has become the subject of this thesis. This thesis analyzes several stream-of-consciousness techniques applied in The Sound and the Fury, including multiple points of view, free association and interior monologue in order to better understand the charm of the stream-of-consciousness writing style and Faulkner’s skillful writing techniques.
