Abstract: The Bluest Eye was a tragic novel written by Toni Morrison, which described the tragic experience of the protagonist, Pecola. Pecola was a nine-year-old black girl and she lived in an age dominated by white people. This article would analyze the causes of the Pecola's tragedy from three aspects: First of all, this article analyzed the environment of white racial discrimination and the impact of the discrimination on Pecola. Secondly, Pecola also suffered from those black people who gradually abandoned their own values and were assimilated by the whites' values. It also described that Pecola's prejudice against her by these ideas. At last, the article analyzed the influence of Pecola’s mother's indifference and her father's cruelty on her.
