Abstract: Based on previous research, the author makes further exploration on American humor in the American series 2 Broke Girls. First of all, this thesis makes an introduction to the definition and significance of American humor, the definition and classification of rhetoric. Also, the main contents and social effects of 2 Broke Girls are introduced. What’s more, the writer concretely analyzes the American humor in the sitcom from the perspective of rhetoric, namely simile, hyperbole, irony and euphemism. By means of literature research and examples, this paper aims to explore how those four kinds of rhetorical devices reflect and affect American humor, in order to help people have a better understanding of American humor and American culture.
