Abstract: Since ancient times, euphemism is widely used by people all around the world. Physiological phenomenon euphemism is an important component in human being’s social lives and thus it bears studying. Euphemism on physiological phenomena relates to all human being’s physiological behaviors, reflecting diverse cultural traditions among various kinds of language. The paper takes death, illness and excretion for examples and summarizes their definition and features systematically. The paper illustrates the effect of differences of culture and values and religious belief on physiological phenomena euphemisms and it also aims to realize language differences of cultural connotations between Chinese and English by a comparative study of euphemisms on physiological phenomena.
