ABSTRACT
Movie industry develops rapidly these years. Movie naturally formed various types in the development of movie industry. In those various types, however, there are many outstanding characters about fathers. Father’ image has been long discussed by public. In this paper, traditional Chinese father image and its changes are analyzed by using the inductive method, reading lot of related papers and books, and rereading the classical plots in the movie Pushing Hands.
Ang Lee, a Chinese director, got many international film prizes. And his movie is satuated with humanity. The father in his movie always has a strong Chinese character. This paper aims at rereading the father in Pushing Hands which is famous as “Father Knows Best” trilogy.
This article mainly divides into 5 parts. The first part is introduction. In this part, a brief introduction is given about Ang Lee and Pushing Hands, and then a summary is given to show the significance and purpose of this paper. In the second part, some literature reviews are concluded from the former researchers, separately from traditional father image and its changes and Pushing Hands. In the third part, combining with the classic plot, the changes of traditional Chinese father image in the movie Pushing Hands are analyzed. In the fourth part, the reasons of why the traditional Chinese father image has changed are analyzed. Finally, a conclusion about the research is made.
