Abstract
With the acceleration of the economic globalization, the exchanges and visits between our country and foreign countries get more and more regularly. Law is an indispensable area of cross-border communication, frequent exchanges will require the laws to regulate the behavior of both sides. Legal culture is a part of the human cultural phenomenon, reflecting the country’s economic, political situation and the value orientation of social citizenship. High-quality legal translation comes from an overall understanding of the legal language system and rich knowledge of the cultural background. Thus culture has a profound influence on legal translation.
The sentences of the legal text refer to the form of sentence organization which is embodied in the legal provisions for the purpose of expressing legal norms. This paper takes the sentences of the Real Right of People’s Republic of China as an example. It explores the methods and sentence strategies in legal English translation from a cultural perspective: using archaism with legal features, modal verb “shall”, long sentences and fixed sentences, etc. It pointed out that the translator should choose and use the most suitable sentences, which can make the legal text fully and perfectly reflect its purpose and disseminate the specific legal information.
