摘要：本文就时尚人物插图的兴起、艺术风格、发展潜力以及在中国的发展潜力进行了深入的研究。同时，古代仕女图在古代如何兴起、发展、没落以及在中古书画史上的地位也进行了阐述，具体论证了古代仕女图兴起、发展、没落的时代因素，各个朝代仕女图的代表画作等。本文还论证了仕女图艺术特点将会在时尚人物插图中的发展、古代仕女图所体现的文化传统审美与时尚的承续等。对古代仕女图在时尚人物插图中的灵感触发等问题做出详细的阐述。

真正意义上的插画最先是在十九世纪初发展起来的，当时它随着报刊、图书的变迁而发展。而它真正的黄金时代则是本世纪五六十年代才开始的，美国则充当了开拓者的角色，当时从事插图的作者也多半是职业画家，而刚从美术作品中分离出来的插图明显带有绘画色彩，后来这些从事插图工作的画家又受到抽象表现主义画派的影响，从具象转变为抽象。直到70年代，插画又重新回到了写实风格。
插画在商品经济时代，对经济的发展起到巨大的推动作用。其中人物形象也就是时尚人物插图以人物为题材，容易与消费者相投合，人物形象最能表现出可爱感与亲切感，人物形象的想象性创造空间是非常大的，因此时尚人物插图逐渐的兴起了。
