摘要：众所周知，21世纪最具发展潜力的两大产业是信息技术（IT）和生物技术。信息技术发展迅猛，并已渗透到社会生活的各个角落。有关信息技术的报道——多媒体、互联网、信息全球化等，不但频频亮相于媒体，而且与我们的日常生活息息相关。而与IT的轰轰烈烈相比，生物技术看起来却平平淡淡，虽然基因、克隆、人类基因组计划、生物多样性等字眼经常见诸报端，但离我们的生活似乎还很遥远。所以，也有专家这样评论：21世纪才是生物工程的世纪。克隆羊多利的诞生，人类基因组90％测序工作的完成，欧美、日本等发达国家对生物技术产业投资的逐年加大，世界各大公司生命科学产业的合并浪潮一浪高过一浪，所有这一切，都使我们相信，21世纪的的确确是生物技术的时代。
