Abstract: This thesis aims to investigate the application of Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) to English reading teaching in Senior High School. Based on the Task-based Language Teaching Theory, it tries to design samples which illustrate the application of TBLT in Senior High School by dividing task implementation into three stages, which are pre-task, task-cycle and language focus. The conclusion of the paper is to explore the practical meaning of reading teaching based on TBLT by action research, and to make a meaningful study to improve the present high school students’ English reading level and teachers’ teaching level.

摘要: 本文旨在研究任务型教学法在高中英语阅读教学中的应用。文章从任务型教学法的理论角度出发,通过将实施任务分为三个阶段:阅读前任务,阅读中任务以及阅读后任务,来设计TBLT阅读任务在高中英语阅读中应用的样例。结论是旨在探讨高中英语阅读教学在任务型教学研究基础上的实践意义,希望通过有意义的学习来提高目前高中生英语阅读水平和教师的教学水平。

This thesis mainly studies the application of Task-based Language Teaching to English reading teaching in senior high school. Due to the traditional English reading teaching which excessively emphasizes receiving knowledge mechanically and ignores the cultivation of students’ initiative and creativity in senior high school, so in order to improve the students' reading comprehension, it is necessary to do further study on the reading-teaching mode. TBLT is a communicative approach to language instruction, using the successful completion of communicative “tasks” as its primary organizing principle. In short, instruction is organized in such a way that students will improve their language ability by focusing on getting something done while using the language, rather than on explicitly practicing language forms, as in more traditional methods of instruction. Through the three stages of reading teaching which are pre task, task cycle and language focus, students' ability of reading comprehension and language communication can eventually be improved a lot. Nowadays, TBLT is being experimented in more and more schools, and both the teachers and students will benefit a lot from the experiments. However, it is acknowledged that it still has a long way to achieve the complete success of the application of TBLT to English reading teaching in senior high school, and further study has to be carried out.
