Abstract:Neologism is an old topic of many English essays and has been studied by scholars from home and abroad from different aspects. New words are the glass of the development of society because the development of society causes a lot of new words and enriches English, especially after World War II. After World War II, all aspects of the society are developing fast, especially the science and technology, and many new items and phenomena appear. As a result, more and more new words are made to describe them. Further more, the English language has become an international communication tool, so the study of new words helps to master the social and cultural development and to update the teaching content of English language.
This paper dealt with several aspects of neologisms of English from the year 2005 to 2010, including its definition, formation, reasons of emergence and the effects on the English language. A survey on 60 English-majored students was conducted to study neologism’s effects on English and people’s thoughts about neologisms. The result of the survey is that 73% of the students approve of neologisms, while 27% of the students against them.

摘要:对英语新词的研究已是英语论文中的一个比较陈旧的话题并为国内外学者从多方面进行了深入细致的研究。社会的发展导致新词语的大量产生,丰富语词汇。尤其是二战以来,随着政治、经济和科技等领域的不断变化和飞速发展,出现了许多新事物、新景象。反映这种变化的语言必须产生新词才能与之相适应, 因此, 英语中涌现出了大量的新词。 如今,英语已成为一种全球性的交流工具,研究英语中的新词语有助于掌握其文化动态和英语教学内容的更新。
该论文主要关注了2005至2010年之间的英语新词。什么是新词?新词的构成、形成原因及其对英语发展的影响有是怎样的?为了探索这些问题,开展一项对60名英语专业学生进行的调查。据调查结果显示,73%的同学赞成新词的产生,而23%的同学则对这种现象表示担忧。
