Abstract:Ernest Hemingway (l899-1961) with his concise and restrained style in his legendary life and unique personality, shaped a group of heroic image that moved readers. These “principle heroes” have tough-guy character, such as indomitable, fearless, daring action. The grace under great pressure being written by Hemingway not only affected people in that era, but also made a great significance in guiding our lives today. The thesis analyses the general character of Santiago in The Old Man and the Sea and studies the inspiration tough-guy image giving us.

摘要:海明威在其富有传奇色彩和独特个性的一生中，用其简练、克制的风格为读者塑造了一批令人可歌可泣的英雄形象，这些“原则英雄”都具有不屈不扰，不畏惧困难，敢于行动的“硬汉性格”。在他们这些人物的的身上所表现出来的这种“重压下的优雅风度”，不仅影响了海明威那个时代的人，在今天对我们同样有着重要的指导意义。本文对《老人与海》中圣地亚哥的性格特征进行分析以及硬汉精神对我们的启示。
