Abstract: This study aims to investigate the influence of cultural factors on the translation strategies of English film titles. A comprehensive study on the English films has been made to show that film titles are of informative, vocative and expressive functions. Linguistic and cultural features are their main characteristics. Furthermore they express artistic, commercial, and social values. In the mean time, comparisons between foreign and domestic cultures are carried out to test their influence on the choosing of methods to translate English film titles. The paper concludes that under the impact of foreign culture, the translators tend to use strategies as transliteration, foreignization and literal translation. However, when the domestic culture plays a more important role, they will choose the methods like adaptation, domestication and liberal translation. This paper aims to translate the film titles in a more efficient way, and then the audience can enjoy more films without any confusion caused by the titles.

摘要:本文主要分析了异域与本土文化对译者在选择影名翻译方法时所起的影响。详细探究了电影名的特征和功能等,从美学、经济和社会价值的角度对影片名有了更为深入的了解。通过对比分析得出,当异域文化影响更为深刻时,译者常采用音译法,异化译法和直译法。而当本土文化影响较大时,译者则采用改写译法,归化译法和意译法。从而可以尽量减少影名翻译的混乱带给观众的诸多不便,使他们能通过影名就开始领略西方的独到文化底蕴。
