Abstract: This paper mainly analyses the close relationship between the tragic fate of Blanche Dubois, heroine in Tennessee Williams’s play A Streetcar Named Desire, and the qualities of the Lost Old South she kept. By a close analysis of the common qualities shared by them, say, racial prejudice, aristocratic education, hedonist lifestyle and rebellion against domination, this paper concludes that Blanche Dubois is a symbol of the Lost Old South, the land that not only breeds her, but also induces the tragedy in her life.

摘要：本文主要分析的是田纳西·威廉姆斯《欲望号街车》中的女主人公布兰奇·杜波伊丝的悲惨命运和她保留的老南方特质之间的千丝万缕之间的关系。这篇文章从老南方的种族歧视、接受的贵族式教育、享乐型的生活方式以及反抗精神四个方面分析老南方的特质在布兰奇·杜波伊丝身上的投射，和这种特质对她悲剧命运的影响。从这四个方面，我们可以了解到布兰奇·杜波伊丝是古老败落的南方的象征，老南方这方土地不仅养育了她，而且也是造成她悲剧命运的根源。
