Abstract:This paper analyzes two different classroom teaching of Chinese and American teachers' by comparing classroom observations. And some differences are found out:  different teaching modes, different relationships between teachers and students and different classroom atmosphere. Then it tries to explore the different cultural backgrounds of Chinese and American teachers. Based on the analyses, three reasons are drawn: first, examination-driven system in China and equality and democracy in America; second, respecting for teachers and authority in China and individualism in America; third, harmony in China and competitiveness in America. Thus, we can know better about the cultural factors which have influences on teaching. It also can help teachers pay attention to culture difference during class and apply proper teaching ways which suit for the culture of the country.

中文摘要:这篇文章从课堂观察比较的角度阐述了中美教师不同的英语课堂教学,即不同的教学方式,不同的师生关系和不同的课堂氛围。然后探讨了造成两种不同的课堂教学的文化背景因素:一,中国的应试教育和美国的民主平等;二,中国的尊师重权威和美国的个人主义;三,中国的强调和谐和美国的自由竞争。由此可以帮助我们更好的了解影响教学的文化因素,有助于中美教师在教学过程中注意文化差异,采用适合本国文化的教学。
