Abstract：Chinese politeness and English politeness have their own orientations. This thesis analyzes the similarities of the two politeness principles from Moral, Speech and Action Maxim in Chinese and Approbation Maxim in English, euphemism in Chinese & euphemism in English; explains the differences from the origin of them, modesty maxim, refinement maxim, and agreement maxim. Moreover, the thesis proposes that violating Chinese politeness principle and English politeness principle can also get the unexpected effects of communication in some situations.

中文摘要：中国文化与英语国家文化的礼貌有着不同的指向，本文通过展示英语国家的六个礼貌准则与中国的五个礼貌准则，及了解其起源来分析这两种来自不同文化背景的准则之间的异同，从中国的德言行准则与英语文化中的赞扬准则，中国的委婉原则与英语国家的委婉原则之间的对比分析相似点，并具体从谦虚准则，文雅准则，面子理论等来分析其差异，此外，这篇论文还提出在某些情况下违反英语礼貌准则与中国礼貌准则也能达到很有效的交际效果。
