Abstract: Alice Walker who mainly focuses on the black women’s life and puts emphasis on analyzing feminism has greatly contributed to American literature. The Color Purple is her master piece, which has been affecting people all through the world with her profound perspective on relation between the two genders. In this novel, the female roles’ self consciousness has been awakened through conflicts between African American women and men, which has eventually achieved understandings and harmony between the two genders. The key characters with different unique personality in the story have revealed the current situation from both men’s and women’s perspective. Alice Walker insists on her belief in “Men are created equal”, and longs for the peaceful coexistence of African American men and women without any internal conflicts and discrimination.
