Abstract:Based on the deep anaylsis of the The Old Man and the Sea, this paper will mainly analyze and discuss Hemingway’s writing technique of symbolism .This paper will focus on the analysis of symbolism from different angles, such as religion, philosophy and so on. By analyze of the symbols in The Old Man and the Sea, such as the old man, the boy, the sea, the marlin, the shark, the lions and so forth, and summarize their symbolic meanings, we can see that the main characters are not themselves but have important symbolic meanings.
In terms of Christianity, by analyzing the traits of the two main characters: the old man and the boy, this paper will reveal that the relationship between the Christ and the disciple of Jesus in the Bible, then analyze their respective symbolic meanings. Finally, this paper will summarize the philosophy of life reflected by the symbols. Accordingly, we can understand this novel and the author’s writing purpose more comprehensively and profoundly.

摘要:通过对《老人与海》的深入分析,本文主要对海明威的写作手法——“象征主义”进行了探讨研究。从宗教、哲学等角度对《老人与海》的象征主义进行解读，具体分析老人，小男孩，大海，马林鱼，鲨鱼及狮子等的象征意义在《老人与海》中的应用，并总结其象征意义，由此得出小说中的主要角色实际上并非角色本身，而有着深刻的象征意义。本文还将从基督教方面，通过对老人与小男孩这两个主要人物的性格特点的分析，揭示《圣经》中耶稣与教徒的关系并总结其相对应的象征意义。最后总结人生观在象征因素中的体现,从而更全面深刻地解读该作品及作者的写作目的。
