Abstract:Meme Theory is a newly developed theory aiming to explain the evolutionary mechanisms of culture from the perspective of Darwinism. In recent years, scholars and college instructors have done a lot of research on Meme Theory, providing new eyes for ”ELT” (English Language Teaching), which shows that the process of learning a language can be viewed as the process of continuous reproduction and propagation of meme. This new perspective has brought about a lot of enlightenments for language teaching. This thesis analyzes the four major stages in life cycle for the replication and transmission of memes and rethinks the college English teaching. The author tries to focus on combining the procedure of course teaching with the four major stages in life cycle of Meme Theory. Applying Meme Theory to the college English teaching by making full use of the characteristic of the Meme Theory can not only be good for college students’ ability of language output, but also for the improvement on the quality of College English teaching.

中文摘要:模因理论是一种基于达尔文进化论的基础上,用来解释文化进化规律的新理论。近年来,国内外学者和大学英语教师对模因论的研究为语言教学提供了一个全新的视角,即人们学习语言的过程实际上可以理解为模因的不断复制和传播的过程。这个新的视角给语言教学的研究带来了新的启发。本文通过研究模因理论生命周期的四个阶段,重新审视大学英语教学,将课程教学的步骤与模因理论生命周期的四个阶段相结合,充分的利用模因理论的特点,把模因理论运用到大学英语电影教学中,从而不仅可以提高大学生的语言输出能力,而且能提高大学英语教学的质量。
