Abstract:Fitzgerald was a famous writer who grew up accompanying the environment of American dream. Because of this, he knew more about American dream. The Great Gatsby was his most famous novel, and regarded as his masterpiece and also the novel which vividly reflected the American phenomenon in the 1920s.
In the novel, the hero, Gatsby in order to obtain his love of Daisy, he tried his best to get wealth and status. He dreamed that he could get real love with money and status. But his dream has broken completely like most people's dreams in America because of the society. So Gatsby became a symbol of tragic image of American dream.
In dealing with the American dream, the paper first analyzes the background of American dream, and then analyzes the American dream by Gatsby’s dream of wealth, status, and love. Finally, the paper comments on the disillusion of all dreams.

摘要:美国著名作家菲兹杰拉德是在美国梦这个环境中成长起来的作家,所以他对美国梦有着透彻的体会。《了不起的盖茨比》是他最著名的作品之一,也被视为最能形象、生动的反映美国二十世纪二十年代的社会现象。
小说中主人公盖茨比为了获得心仪女生黛丝的芳心,不惜一切想要获得财富与地位,希望这样可以得到黛丝。他所做的一切都是为了这个梦想,然而他只得到了财富,其他的最终都成为泡影。他的地位梦与爱情梦均被无情社会的所击垮。文中展现了主人公追梦圆梦的美好愿望与梦破的残酷事实,盖茨比也因此成为美国梦悲剧形象的象征。
本文首先介绍美国梦以及美国梦的背景,其次再通过分析盖茨比的财富梦、地位梦与爱情梦来诠释美国梦,最后通过盖茨比梦想的破灭来谈论美国梦的破灭。
