Abstract: "Stream of consciousness" is a western literary creation growing up in the early 20th century. It is a new kind of novel writing technique which originated from modern philosophy, especially the modern psychology. British woman writer Virginia Woolf is regarded as both a pioneer of stream of consciousness and a modern western feminist in the 20th century world literature. Mrs. Dalloway is a mature novel of stream of consciousness, which is also one of the best novels of stream of consciousness. This dissertation aims to analyze the use of the technique of stream of consciousness in Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway, including montage, interior monologue, free association, which helps us to understand the writing techniques better employed in stream of consciousness as well as the inner world and psychological activities reflected in the works of stream of consciousness.
