Abstract:Title is crucial to the success of a movie. Its translation is an important and creative work. However, because of the cultural differences between China and western countries, the market’s condition can be summed up in a sentence: one title has many editions, and the good and bad are intermingled. Previously the Western and Chinese translators have proposed some translation theories, including Yan Fu’s principle of faithfulness, expressiveness, and elegance. In this article, some translation principles and methods are introduced on the basis of the former. In addition, the paper also focuses on the study of movie title translation in different areas and requirements for translators. By introducing these translation principles and methods, we hope the translators can improve level, providing the audience with better translation.

摘要:片名是一部电影制胜的关键,它的翻译是一项重要而富于创造性的工作。然而由于文化的差异,目前英文电影片名翻译的市场呈现出“一名多译,良莠不齐”的现象。在众多中西方的翻译家们提出的各种翻译理论中,本文以严复提出的“信、雅、达”为理论基础,先简要介绍了“信、雅、达”的出处与内容,再概括介绍片名翻译所应符合的信息原则、文化意识原则、商业及审美原则;并从直译、音译、意译及这三者的结合使用方面介绍翻译的方法。另外,文章还对不同地区的英文片名翻译特点进行了研究,并兼谈了对译者的要求。通过对这些翻译原则与方法的介绍,望译者能提高翻译水平,提供给观众更好的精神享受,并改善市场现状,促进国际间的文化艺术交流。
