Abstract: With the constant development of international cultural exchange, movie, as an important cultural media, is paid close attention to by various countries. Movie title translation, as a necessary part of film translation, is of great importance and creation. This paper analyzes the causes of the mistranslation of film names with plentiful examples. One is the lack of understanding cultural connotation and the other is the excessive pursuit of commercial profits. This paper argues that a successful title translation should obey the three “retaining” principles, namely, retaining cultural content, retaining linguistic aesthetics and retaining commercial value. Based on the foregoing analysis, this paper further discusses the application of three common translation methods.

摘要：随着国际间文化交流的不断发展，电影作为一种重要的文化传媒，正日益受到各国的关注。电影片名翻译，作为电影翻译的一个必要组成部分，是一项重要而富有创造性的工作。本文通过具体译例，分析了电影片名误译原因一是缺乏对文化内涵的理解，二是过分追求商业利益。本文认为，成功的片名翻译应遵循三个“保留”原则，即保留文化内容，保留语言美感，保留商业价值。文章还对三种常用翻译方法的恰当使用进行了讨论。
