Abstract：English writing is more and more important. At the same time, it is a complex task. Chinese students’ English writing has been an issue that attracts the attention of many researchers at home and abroad. For Chinese learners of English, an obvious difficulty is to handle cohesion and coherence in their writing. This study is designed to investigate the current status quo of cohesion and coherence in students’ English writing. The samples are taken from the sophomore English majors of School of Foreign Languages in Yuxi Normal University. 30 sophomore English majors’ essays are analyzed on two main issues, the varieties of cohesion and coherence problems existing in their essays, and measures to achieve coherence and cohesion in students’ English writing.

中文摘要：无论是在学习还是生活中，英语写作都变得越来越重要，而它本身又是一项复杂的工作。因此，中国学生的英文写作一直以来都为许多中外英语教师所关注。对中国学生而言，一个明显的困难就是克服英语作文中的衔接和连贯问题。此研究是针对玉溪师范学院外语学院英语专业二年级学生写作中衔接与连贯问题的调查。文章以30名英语专业二年级学生的英语作文为样本，分析了学生作文中的衔接与连贯问题,提出了相应的措施,以期提高英语专业写作教学和学生的写作水平。
