Abstract:With the publication of Look Back in Anger, the English drama creation turned from describing the living room of the upper class to the dejected young generation and people of the middle and lower levels, and so initiated a revolution of English drama writing. John Osborne successfully portrays the hero Jimmy in Look Back in Anger as a man who always gets angry when getting along with his family members. This thesis intends to analyze the inevitability and universality of Jimmy’s anger by exploring the major reasons of his anger from four aspects, including the impact of the society, his childhood, his martial life as well as his own character. The survival dilemma of young people of the lower class under that social background is thus revealed and analyzed.
