Abstract

 

Every time the US election has attracted much attention, enough to attract the attention of the rest of the world. The 2016’s American election which has been closed for half a year once again caused a strong election storm. Trump, who has no political experience, beat Hillary and became the 44th American president. In this presidential election, the new media came out of the limelight, compared with the relative decline of the traditional media. Trump’s successful election also means the arrival of the new media era. But traditional media still affects us in many ways. What is the media in the end? The major function of media is to spread information. It is a kind of means, channel, vehicle, mediator or technical approach for people to spread and pick up information. The development of media brings a new era, producing a lot of impact on the US elections. From newspapers in the early days of elections to subsequent TV and video, and in 2012 we entered Obama’s new media’s era. The development of media witnessed the maturity of American democratic politics. This paper is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is introduction, introducing the general idea and the structure of this paper. It includes the purpose and significance of writing this paper, and it briefly introduces the status quo of domestic and foreign research. The second chapter introduces the definition of media, including traditional media and new media. The third chapter discusses the general influence of media on media, including positive influence and negative influence. The fourth chapter digs into specific cases, analyzing the influences of media on the latest 2016’s American presidential election. The fifth chapter analyzes the driving forces that produce such influences. The last chapter makes a conclusion.

The focus of this paper is to analyze the role of the media in the US presidential election, to explore the rise of new media and the decline of traditional media, and analyze the causes of this situation. This paper reviews the relevant papers on the impact of the media on the U.S. election. By studying the influence of the media on the American election especially the latest 2016’s American election between Trump and Hillary, this papers endeavors to reach a deeper understanding of electoral culture in the United States.
