Abstract
In modern society, more and more people, especially young people, like flowers. They believe flowers are stand for love, respect, delight, or even sadness. On some days, they would buy flowers to express their emotion, but the flowers in different countries, there are lots of meanings. Therefore, it is very important to compare and analyze the symbolic meaning of Chinese and American flowers in the view of cultural field.
This paper mainly focuses on the symbolic meaning of Chinese and western flowers. First, it introduces flowers, including history, cultural connotation, value. Second, it compare and analyze Chinese and western flowers culture respectively in order to analyze the similarity and differences of the two cultures, and then from the perspective of differences between Chinese and western culture, the paper demonstrates the proper understanding of symbolic meaning of flowers between Chinese and American from four aspects which include the regional civilization, thinking patterns, customs, religious beliefs. Finally it draws the conclusion in order to put forward the learning and communicating methods of flower culture and it symbolic meanings.
