Abstract
The paper isbased on the disillusionment of the American dream in The Great Gatsby which iswritten by F.scott Fitzgerald who was one of the most outstanding writers during the 20thcentury. In the first chapter, the paper illustrates the American dream and The Great Gatsby. In the second chapter, With the showing of the complex relationship of Gatsby and Daisy, the papernot only analyzes the tragic love between the two people but also reveals the anguished people among the catastrophic society, which vividly reflects the truth that loveis difficult to reach and cherish while people are all chasing for the money and status at that time. The difference between this paper and the other papers is that it focuses on the love affair among the main characters. By contrast, most of the topics pay more attention to the ‘American Dream’ referred to The Great Gatsby.
